Ethiopia’s Olympic team arrived in Addis Ababa Thursday morning. The Ethiopian athletes at the London Olympics have won three gold, one silver and three bronze medal. Up on arrival at Bole International Airport, the athletes were welcomed by the Speaker of the House of Federation, Kassa Teklebirhan, and by the Commissioner of Sports, Abdisa Yadeta.
A special program has been arranged to celebrate the victory of Ethiopian athletes as the city welcomes them. Ethiopia finished 25th in the London Olympics’ medal table, and second in Africa. Tirunesh Dibaba won the gold medal in the women’s 10,000 meters and took bronze in the women’s 5,000 meters. Meseret Defar won the gold medal in the women’s 5000 meters. Tiki Gelana took the gold medal in a stunning victory in the women’s Marathon. In his first Olympic games, Dejen Gebremeskel also won a silver medal in the men’s 5000 meters. Sophia Assefa, in women’s 3,000 meter steeplechase and Tariku Bekele in the men’s 10,000 meters also took bronze medals.
